ICSI vs Standard IVF: When is Micro-Injection Necessary?
Embryology Research Team
Niora ART Laboratory

Male factor infertility contributes to nearly 40-50% of conception challenges. ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) has revolutionized male fertility care by selecting a single optimal sperm cell and micro-injecting it directly into an egg cell.
Standard IVF vs ICSI
In standard IVF, eggs and thousands of sperm are placed together in a dish to fertilize naturally. In ICSI, an embryologist manually selects the single healthiest sperm under a 4000x microscope and injects it directly into the egg, bypassing all natural membrane barriers.
When ICSI is Strongly Indicated
ICSI is recommended for low sperm count (oligospermia), poor motility (asthenozoospermia), abnormal sperm morphology, previous IVF fertilization failure, or surgical sperm extraction (TESA/PESA).
